New Year’s Day Flodden Peace Walk

You are invited to the New Year’s Day  Flodden Peace Walk 

The first event in the 500th Battle Anniversary Commemorations on January 1st 2013: World Peace Day    Gather at Crookham Church 11am for introductory tour of Peace Garden Depart for walk at 11.30am Arrive Battlefield Monument 12.30pm for short reflection and BYO refreshments. Return to Crookham Village Hall at approximately 2pm for refreshments All are welcome please bring your friends and relatives for an inspirational walk.   For those who feel they could not complete the full 6 mile walk please feel free to meet at any of the above mentioned points. There is a car park close to the memorial, however there is an incline to the monument. Generally moderate to easy walking on paths. Strong boots and warm waterproof clothes recommended.  

Flodden Peace Centre @ Crookham – Work has begun

The project has now secured £27,000 towards it’s goal of raising £80,000.00.  Work has now commenced in the Peace Garden which will be completed December 2012 ready for the 500th anniversary of the battle of Flodden in 2013.  Harvest Festival service was celebrated on the 7th October with Flodden 1st BP Scouts and the Crookham Cuckoo singers, after the first 4 days of productive contractors work had begun.

Gamelan Percussion Workshop

 

Sunday 5th August 1.30 – 7 pm at Crookham URC

Come along and explore this fascinating Indonesian ensemble instruments. The workshop will be working towards a performance during the Cafe Festival in Crookham over the August Bank Holiday. Our expert leader will guide us through this new experience as we create a new work based on the ancient celtic myth of the Cuckoo.

Cost: Likely to be £10 per participant, with reduction for existing members of the Crookham Cuckoo Singers.

International Red Cross/Red Crescent Day

Flodden Peace & Reconciliation supporters gather together on the banks of the river Till which was forded by English troops preparing for battle nearly 500 years ago. With ingenuity and good humour the river has been forded once more, this time by a rainbow ribbon – a symbol of hope and reconciliation. Afterwards, we met in Crookham village hall for a celebration marking the birthday of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Red Cross Committee.

Easter Sunday Services in time running order!

Wooler Easter Hillside Dawn 6.30 am ( take the bridle path off Cheviot Street, and walk along for 5 mins to join the crowd on the hill) followed by Easter Breakfast in the Glendale Hall. Led by Rev P Ward 11 am Easter Holy Communion led by Rev Rachel Poolman

Spittal/ Berwick 8 am worship on the beach at spittal. 11 am Easter Worship Led by Mr Graham Ferguson & 6 pm Rev Tony Richie.

Chatton – the URC are not holding a service today, but there is an C of E service at 9.30 am

Belford 10.30 Worship with Holy Communion, Children’s worship with Egg Rolling and Egg Hunt. Refreshments in the Ferguson Hall. Led by Rev Dave Herbert

Crookham 3 pm Easter Worship with The Crookham Cuckoo singing and Easter Egg Hunt, and refreshments. Led by Rev Dave Herbert

The Cuckoo sang, while peace reigned

On Sunday 4th March, Rowena Francis Moderator of Northern Synod preached at Crookham Church.  The community choir, The Crookham Cuckoo sang and there was a launch of the new banners announcing the coming Peace and Reconciliation Centre and Garden.  The next public steering group meeting is Fiday 16th March 5.30 pm The Blue Bell, Crookham.  All are welcome to attend this informal meeting.

Photos, oral history and lots of chat at Chatton Village Hall

Farmer, Margaret Brown, an Elder at Wooler United Reformed Church is leading a guided tour of the newly archived material created by Sheep Tales and Spinning Yarns.  Hear all the stories using material rooted in oral history to old photos and a mix of farming artefacts.  Promises to be a good night.  £2 for Refreshments. Crookham URC hosts Gardeners Question Time & dates of next Flodden Meetings at the Blue Bell.

The church with Crookham Garden Club hosted Gardens Question Time on the 12th March 2012 and it was broadcast shortly afterwards. Dave asks a horticultural question on plants for a peace garden.

The next meeting of Flooden Peace and Reconciliation Centre at Crookham is Wednesday 30th May both meetings at The Blue Bell, Crookham. All are welcome to attend and contribute to the project.
